Whether you plan on staying at Nana’s this Summer or going on a staycation with the kids at a local resort, you’re probably feeling a little (or a lot) anxious like I am. Like you, it’s been months since we’ve taken our kids out to do much of anything. Our 5 month old knows home and the roof of the car by this point and we’re all LOSING our minds. By now, halfway through the year, we would have had at least 3 trips under our belt and some pretty worn our kids come to Summer. I’m equally nervous and excited about all of the upcoming trips we have on our calendar to share with you guys here on my blog and social platforms. I toggle between “YASSSSS I’m working again!!!” and “What if this isn’t the right choice?! What else can I possibly do to make this okay?!” I decided the best way to ease my anxieties though is to prep, train, educate, and stay calm.
Practice masking up & washing.
We’ve been talking to the boys a lot about the trips we have coming up and what’s going on in the world around us. While we haven’t taken them out in public yet, other than to a deserted beach in the late afternoons and rides through the car wash, we have been practicing and training them on proper masking and frequent hand washing at home. It’s a pretty quick and easy thing we can do to make it less scary for them once it’s time to travel and they’ve all surprisingly seemed to enjoy feeling informed and aware.
Get your kids involved.
Another thing I can recommend to you is to get your kids involved in the planning of your Summer vacation and 2020 travels. We have a partnership coming up this Summer with the option of adding entertainment and activities away from our hotel to our itinerary. In order to make sure the kids are on board, comfortable, and willing to mask up, we’ve involved them in those plans and made sure they know not to feel pressured when the time comes. If someone isn’t feeling up to the mask, we pass. We can try again later or not at all.
We’ve had to learn a LOT of patients as parents in these last several months. Not only have we molded our life to fit the pandemic but, we’ve also had to navigate through parenting 4 sons, under one roof, with no break, sleepless nights with an infant, and fewer trips to the grocery store. It’s been trying to say the least. So, needless to say, we are all ready for a few staycations this Summer so, I’ve been taking some time to collect and gather a few necessities that I wouldn’t normally pack on a trip but, will be super beneficial given the circumstances.
